Sunday stage was the fifth and last one of the 69. edition of the race. Peloton had to take on steep climb of Vršatec three times, before the final ascent to the finish in Kohútka.
Right after the start there was a huge breakaway of 15 riders, including the second man in the provisional standings Lukáš Kubiš (Unibet Tietema Rockets) or leader of the KOM classification, Martin Voltr (ATT Investments).

Peloton didn't allow more than two minutes of advantage for the riders ahead however, and everthing was back together already on the second ascent of Vršatec. Paul Magnier (Soudal Quick-Step), winner of first four stages, was already dropped at this point.

Visma Lease a Bike pulled in the group of favourites with six riders. Lukáš Kubiš managed to hold on in this group and won the last intermediate sprint of the race in Dohňany.
On the final climb Kohútka Visma Lease a Bike dictated the tempo, but riders of the dutch squad didn't have the legs to follow a huge effort of Paul Double in the closing kilometres. British rider dropped from the both wheel Bart Lemmen and Thomas Gloag (Visma Lease a Bike) and celebrated victory ahead of them.

Best three riders of the Sunday's summit finish were also best three in general classification. Jayco - AlUla managed to defend their title from last year. Visma Lease a Bike couldn't take home the yellow jersey, but displayed huge power by putting four riders in Top 10 and easily winning the teams classification.

Green jersey was claimed by Paul Magnier, red polka-dot jersey by Martin Voltr and white jersey was snatched by Cian Uijtdebroecks (Visma Lease a Bike) on the last day. Best Slovak rider was Lukáš Kubiš, who finished sixth overall and also was awarded as a most combative rider of the whole week.
