Tour of Slovakia goes to higher category UCI 2.1

The upcoming annual of The Tour of Slovakia, the international cycling race, which will take place from 7th to 11th June 2017, is moving to higher category. At the end of November 2016, our event was listed to category 2.1 in the UCI calendar. This category allows World Tour teams to start at this race.

More points, higher „prize money“ and better teams. All this is part of the progression to higher category. Slovakian Cycling Union, the main organizer of the event, asked for the shift to higher category, due to the last year’s excellent evaluation from the UCI comissioners and team managers. They named The Tour of Slovakia as the third best race of 2.2 category.

„I’m very glad that our request has been granted. It is a reward and a big commitment at the same time,“ said Peter Privara, president of SCU and also the general director of the race. „I’m happy that the work of the whole organization team was positively evaluated by the UCI comissioners, team managers and the places themselves, with which we work together on the race.  Moving to the higher category means higher attractivity of the event not just for the teams and media, but also for sponsors. The 61st annual race of The Tour of Slovakia will take place between from the 7th to 11th June 2017 with starting line in Levoča and finish line in Trnava. At that time, it’s the only event of this category in Europe. We’ll make sure to do everything we can to make protour teams, in which we have slovakian riders, to accept our invitation,“ added Privara.
