Introduction of the 66th edition of Tour de Slovaquie, this time from west to the east

That's the startlist for Slovak national tour, Tour de Slovaquie, which is going to write it's 66th edition between 13th and 17th of September 2022.

There are two changes this year. Firstly, route will be heading from west to the east, starting with a short time trial in the capital city of Bratislava, and finishing four days later in second biggest city in the country, Košice. General sponsor of the biggest slovakian cycling race will again be brand Niké - the first Slovak betting company. Main partner of the event is brand Škoda, which provides us with fleet of cars to ensure smooth mobility of the race.

Startlist of the 66th edition of our national tour

This year's edition once again attracted a strong field of teams. Quick-Step Alpha Vinyl, Astana Qazachstan, BikeExchange-Jayco and Israel Premier-Tech will return to the start line, along with powerful teams of Jumbo-Visma and Bahrain Victorious, who are set to make their debut in Slovakia.

In addition to the six mentioned WorldTour teams, there will be also six ProTeams at the start in Bratislava - Bardiani CSF Faizané, Eolo Kometa, Equipo Kern Pharma, Caja Rural, Novo Nordisk and Human Powered Health. Fleet of Continental teams will include Adria Mobil, Mazowsze Serce Polski, ATT Investments, Maloja Pushbikers, Elkov Kasper, VolkerWessels and best Slovak team, Dukla Banská Bystrica. The startlist will be rounded out by Slovak national team.

The route will this time lead the cyclists from west to the east

As we already indicated, the route will change it's course this year and peloton will be heading from west to the east. Fans will have first opportunity to see cyclists in Bratislava, where the event will begin on September 13th.

Race will start with a prologue. Short flat individual time trial will take place in the city district of Petržalka and will create first little gaps among the riders. Second stage will be held between Bratislava and historical city of Trnava, a place where the race ended last year and where Peter Sagan won the overall title for the first time in his home race. At the beginning of the stage there will be a long neutral zone, so the fans can enjoy the peloton in the small speed for longer period of time. The profile of a stage will be flat, 139 kilometers long, with three intermediate sprints and it will favour sprinters. There will also be one classified climb to the Červený kameň, where the climber's jersey points will be awarded for the first time.

The third stage will start in a city of Hlohovec and finish in Banská Štiavnica. The route is 186 kilometers long and will include three intermediate sprints, as well as six climbing sprints. Climbs of Teplička, Penhýbel, Kostivrch, Červená Studňa, Štiavnické Bane and Klinger in Banská Štiavnica will thin out the peloton and slightly reduced main group should attend the final sprint.

Fourth day will be the hardest stage of the race. 214 kilometer route is also the longest one in this year's edition. The so called queen stage will start in Detva and head to Spišská Nová Ves. There are seven classified climbs on the profile (Lom nad Rimavicou, Nad sedlom Chorepa, sedlo Brezina, sedlo Hrádok, Dobšinský vrch, Gajnár and Dravce) and again three intermediate sprints. The stage will also visit cities of Hriňová, Jelšava or Spišský Štvrtok.

Last stage will take the peloton from another historical city of Levoča to second largest city of Slovakia, Košice. As every stage, it will again include three intermediate sprints and also three classified climbs (Podgrajnár, Štósske sedlo and Jasovský kopec). The route will visit also the cities of Spišská Nová Ves, Smolník or Jasov. The overall winner, as well as winners of all the other jerseys, will be crowned in the Košice (presná lokácia?... podľa mňa dôležitejšie než dediny po ceste).

UCI points and jerseys

Tour de Slovaquie slots in 2.1 category and so will offer a good portion of the UCI points. Best 25 riders from general classification will be awarded with points, with the winner taking 125 points. Top three riders of each stage are also scoring, with the winner taking home 14 points (tu bola chyba na oficiálnej stránke). Finally, the overall leader after each stage is also taking three UCI points. In total, there will be 917 UCI points in disposal on the slovakian roads in September.

Overall leader is wearing the yellow jersey, which is sponsored by Niké - the first Slovak betting company (general partner of the event, family company n.1 in Slovakia according to Forbes 2018 standings, in 2020 decided to step in the world of cycling as a sponsor of the biggest Slovak cycling race).

The points classification leader is wearing the green jersey, sponsored by the main partner of the event, Škoda. Points for this competition are awarded for the best ten riders in the finish of each stage, as well as for the five best riders in the three intermediate sprints in every stage.

The climbing classification leader is wearing a polka-dot jersey. Points for this classification are awarded on the top of each of the 17 classified climbs on the route. The youth classification leader - best rider under 23 years of age in the general classification - is wearing a white jersey.

At the end of the event, the best team in the teams classification will also be awarded, as will be the best Slovak rider in the general classification. Winner of the latter will win also 1000 euros in prize money. Miss Šuleyová-Holečková will hand the prize herself, in the memory of her late father, who was a huge fan of the event. Special prize will also be awarded for the rider who will be first at the highest point of the whole race (to je ktorý :D?... tiež dôležité) - Cena Mateja Laca. After every stage, also the most aggresive rider will be awarded with the combativity prize and will wear a red starting number on his back throughout the next stage.

In every city, the group ride Energia na kolesách for fans will be held.

The race will be accompanied by interesting side program for the spectators, including the raffle with interesting prizes or stands with goods from our partners. Fans along the route will also be randomly awarded with presents and gifts from the accompanying advert colony, which will be arriving in cities approximately half an hour before the cyclists.

On the opening day in Petržalka fans with diabetes can also attend the Diapozitívna energia na kolesách, which is organised as a support for the promotion of healthy lifestyle among diabetics, as well as ordinary people.
