Bouwman wins bunch sprint in Spisska Nova Ves, Cerny retained yellow, Fortunato will win climbers jersey

Koen Bouwman won reduced bunch sprint in Spisska Nova Ves and closed in on GC. He's now only two seconds behind leader Josef Cerny. Lorenzo Fortunato dominated the climbs today and ensured he will win the climber's classification tomorrow.

Third stage of this year's edition was the defined as queen stage. It was also the longest one, covering mammoth portion of 210 kilometres between towns of Detva and Spisska Nova Ves, with seven categorised climbs along the way.

First two hours were complete chaos, with multiple attacks on opening climbs and peloton reducing to only 40 riders at one point. However, no breakaway was able to get clear. Lorenzo Fortunato (EOLO-Kometa) was taking climber's points on first climbs, as Mauri Vansevenant won the first intermediate sprint and gained valuable bonus seconds to move to third place after the stage.

On climb Brezina finally 14 riders went clear, but peloton gave them only three minutes of an advantage. Among the escapees was also Slovak rider Lukas Kubis of Dukla Banska Bystrica. Jumbo-Visma was dictating hard tempo on hardest climb of the race to Dobsinsky Kopec, which resulted in dropping Ethan Vernon, Quick-Step's sprinter, and green jersey wearer, as well as reeling the huge break back.

In final kilometres, everything was ready for the reduced bunch sprint. No one was able to go away in the finale and the best position to the finish was created for Koen Bouwman by his Jumbo teammates. He won comfortably ahead of Luca Colnaghi of team Bardiani and Roel Van Sintmaartensdijk of team VolkerWessels.

Josef Cerny retained the yellow jersey with slender lead of two seconds ahead of today's winner Bouwmann. The fight for the overall title will be between these two tomorrow. Ethan Vernon (green), Archie Ryan (white) and Martin Svrček (best Slovak) held on to their jerseys.
